Long Synopsis:

​

The film tells the incredible true story of how Silvio Santos, one of Brazil's greatest media icons, tries to convince his kidnapper to free him and his family.

 

In August 2001, Silvio was kept hostage in his own house by Fernando Dutra Pinto, the very same kidnapper who, hours earlier, released Silvio's daughter Patrícia from a week-long captivity. Fernando, who is on the run from the police, believes Silvio is the only one with the resources to help him escape. Still shaken by Patrícia's kidnapping, Silvio has to convince Fernando to give himself up.

He tries to accomplish that by telling Fernando about his humble beginnings and the journey that led him to become Brazil's most beloved personality. Fiction and reality mix in a narrative of overcoming obstacles, victories, questions, and mistakes that slowly impact Fernando's decisions. Silvio bets everything on gaining Fernando's trust and takes control of the negotiations with the police to help for a better outcome.

The movie starts when the police discover Fernando’s hiding place. Surprised by the police there is shootout where Fernando is injured and in the process, two policemen are killed. Scared for his life, Fernando runs away leaving all the ransom money behind. With nowhere to go, he heads to Silvio’s mansion, not sure yet on what to do. Once inside, he explains to Silvio that he needs more money. In the meant ime the police finds out that Silvio is now a hostage to Fernando and surrounds the house.

Now, the only way Fernando can leave this situation is through negotiations. But he is not good at that, since there are different police jurisdictions to make things worse. So in a unprecedented situation, Silvio Santos takes charge of the situation and starts to negotiate with the police for the safe release of the kidnapper, Fernando.

Through the seven hours that it takes for Fernando to surrender, Silvio talks about his life, his struggles to become on of the most successful media businessman in the country. From his humble beginnings as a street vendor, to working on a ferry as a salesman, to getting his first radio job.
Silvio is able little by little, to gain Fernando’s confidence and show that everyone has a hard road on life.
